ABOUT ME

Hello....

Me!

Me!

My name is Stephen Hamilton. I'm a professional antique restorer, living in Silsden near Keighley West Yorkshire and I've been restoring furniture for over 30 years. I've created this website to show some of my work to anyone who may be interested, and to keep a bit of a record for myself....after working on so many pieces of antique furniture it's easy to forget the jobs I've done, so hopefully this blog can also help me keep track!

A little bit of history...

When my school years were finally coming to an end (after what seemed like an eternity..) I wasn't sure what I wanted to do for a career. After giving it some thought I decided to give woodworking a try... not because I was great at it, just because it didn't seem like the other lessons at school- it wasn't like working at all, it was fun!
So I left school and started out with a brief spell at a kitchen fitting firm in Keighley business centre. I realised pretty quickly that I wanted to be working with solid wood rather than chipboard, so I only stayed for 3 months before I moved on to North Bridge Antiques in Halifax. After a couple of years there I moved on to the French polishing firm W. Greenwood & Sons in Halifax. In 1988 I started working for J.H.Cooper & Sons in Ilkley ( now Coopers of Ilkley) and I worked there for over 30 years. I now have my own Antique Restoration business called ‘The Furniture Repair Shop’ www.furniturerepairshop.co.uk

Fame at last!

I was asked if I would do an article for 'The Times' national newspaper about my working life as an antique furniture restorer.
