Modern mirror
This was a challenging one!
This mirror was constructed from fibreglass and the decorative surface was tiny pieces of mirror with a white filler background. It had fallen over in the customers house and snapped in half!
To repair it I cut a section out of the rear side, and then glued the two halves of the mirror together using strong Araldite adhesive and some long sash clamps. Once the glue had set I applied fibreglass to the inside of the mirror frame ( through the cut out sections at the back) to add strength, then replaced the cut outs and strengthened the back of the frame with two long slim wooden batons.
Pleased with this one as it ended up nice and strong with an invisible join and one very happy customer!
Walnut box with missing inlay
Chair with brass inlay
Had a chair in this week with loose joints. Needs to have new cane work done, loose joints and a piece of brass inlay making to replace what is missing. Check the pics to see the progress...
Chair with broken stretchers
The stretchers of this armchair had all broken, probably because of a combination of the loose joints and a poor design of the turnings- the ends are very thin. I ended up having to turn 3 new ones on the lathe.
